Risk Factors in Divorce

Perceptions by the Children Involved

Kari Moxnes

Department of Sociology and Political Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. kari.moxnes{at}svt.ntnu.no

The article analyses how children cope with their parents' divorce. By focusing on children's divorce stories, we can better understand how they experienced the risk, the changes and the continuities that they endured during the divorce process. It is argued that even if divorce is a stressful process that causes loss of capital for most children, what is crucial for the children's well-being is whether they get to retain a close relationship to the family members and to keep their family.
